1. Hey. Just read your blog. It sounds interesting. Never heard of an American, who is that excited about going to DK. Why did you choose Denmark? :-)

    Good question!

When my dad was in high school, he met an exchange student from Denmark. Ever since then, they have been best friends. His name is Morten. Morten and his family visit sometimes, and I always enjoy it when I see them! So I thought Denmark was a good choice because I have friends that live there. :)

Also I really like the culture, the language, and the people!

  2. Recently I have been thinking about my choice to go to Denmark, and how it will be useful in the future. This then led to me thinking about the danish language, and why I want to learn it.

Danish isn’t like German, or Chinese, or French, or Spanish.

You can’t really use it in every day life here in the states, and that’s a fact.

People ask me why I would ever want to learn a language that nobody else in my area will know.

  3. Danish music!

Just go to my blog an click on the “Musik” button on the far right, or you can click on this link: http://priscillatodenmark.tumblr.com/tagged/musik

I don’t have very many songs on there right now, but I will add many more during my year abroad and hopefully a little bit before that :)

  4. Today was the day that all of my host families and my counselor met up to discuss the order of who I am staying with! I don’t know the results just yet, but I should know by tomorrow. Once that happens, I will feel the reality sink in (maybe)!

I bought some luggage on friday, and I love it. In person the colors are much brighter than what the picture shows here :)

Also I have lots of language learning books which I look at all the time! My passport is still at home, waiting for its visa stamp which I will get soon.

    Farvel og vi ses!

  5. Less than three months left?

Where does time go? In September it felt like August would never come. Now it is almost here, and I am terrorfied/excited/happy/nervous/everything all at the same time. I can’t even imagine how I will be the night before the day I leave!

Will I sleep the night before?
    No.

Will this all sink in at the airport?
    Probably.

Am I counting down the days like a maniac?
    Yes. 81.

Is everyone getting tired of me bringing up my exchange?
I’m pretty sure the answer is yes.

It’s funny how a while ago I thought I knew what to expect from this experience. Now I’m the opposite.
I don’t know what Denmark is like.
I don’t know what school will be like.
I’m not sure what my host families are like.
I don’t know much danish, but I will learn.
There is one thing I am sure of…

This will be the year of my life.

  6. Someone posted this in the outbounds group, and I needed to share it.

‘The realization that the halls you walk through, the rooms you stay in, the bed you sleep in, and the people you talk to and love will be taken over by new halls and rooms and sooo many people who you will love for the rest of your life… and the underlying truth that being a rotary exchange student isn’t just a part of our lives, but a part of us that will never leave. Its a part of us that will ultimately change our view on life, and make us a better person. The part that shines through in all of us. ♥ we are and always will be rotary exchange students.’

  7. So I have 85 days left in the US…

    …and I am so excited.

Back in September when I applied, I thought August would never come. Ever.
But here I am, 8 months later, less than 3 months away from August 4th.

    I have my host families.

    I have my school.

    I have my city.

And I have a very short amount of time to spend with the people I love.

I can’t express how happy I am. I literally can’t put it into words. But I’m trying to remember that I still am here in America, and I need to make the most of it while I can! Which is why I made a little summer bucket list :)

    My summer bucket list:

Have a back to back sleepover with one of my friends

    Sleep under the stars

    Go to the beach

    Read by the lake

    Take some yoga classes

Hang out with friends at least twice a week

    Have a goodbye party

Write a long letter to my family (in secret) for them to read when they return home from the airport

That’s all I have for now, so farvel og vi ses!
